Well, my friends, here we go again! Starting a brand new year is like getting onto a roller coaster. In the beginning you’re filled with anticipation as you buckle in and settle yourself for the ride. Next, your car begins to be pulled uphill very slowly – “click, click, click,” and you start to wonder what you’re getting yourself into. Then, there’s that brief moment when you’re at the top and your heart is in your throat as you see how very far up you are and how many twists and turns await you. But from then on, it’s a wild ride that’s out of your hands and all you can do is hold on and see what happens. It can be exhilarating or terrifying, but you’re committed until the end.
So, I’m ready. My Christmas trees are down and all of the decorations have been put away. I’ve taken down the old calendars and put up new ones. I’m practicing writing “2011” on checks and documents. And I’m starting to gather all of the receipts and figures I’ll need to figure my taxes. So you might say I’m buckling in.
In my case it wasn’t as if 2010 was such a prize. I had more than my share of heartaches and challenges, so I’m more than ready to see what lies ahead as the car goes “click-click-click”up into the new year. I realize that there will be some pretty scary twists and turns ahead (Can you say “eye surgery?”) But I’m also hoping that I’ll have plenty of thrills (single vision?) and laughter as well. I’m getting on this ride with a positive attitude and plenty of hope in my heart that there will have been more good times than bad when the ride winds down at the end of 2011.
So, are you with me? If so, find a comfortable seat and buckle in. Let’s have some fun! After all, I want only the best for each and every one of you.
Happy New Year!
But I hate roller coasters, Star! Give me a bumper car any old day. You can zip along and bang into your troubles, back up a bit, and then speed off in another direction. And you never get stuck at the top and have to be rescued.
Happy New Year!
Thanks, Star! Right back atcha. It’s got to be a good one in 2011. (That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.)
